Jun Fuduo is an adult fashion model that lives a rather ordinary life until Lan Asuka finds her. Asuka works for the Human Alliance, a government-sanctioned force that hunts and kills DevilBeasts. Asuka sees in Fuduo the potential to become a DevilMan and arranges her awakening in combat with a Beast. Asuka then tells Fuduo that she has no choice but to work for the Human Alliance, who with a DevilMan on their side, finally have a chance to kill the Beasts. With every transformation, Fuduo grows stronger, but will the hunter become the hunted?

I was not a big fan of DevilMan and I tend to shy away from horror anime in general, so I went into The Devil Lady with reservations. While I still couldn't completely get into the series, The Devil Lady does serve up a healthy dose of horror and offered some interesting moments with Fuduo coping with her newfound abilities. However, the series seemed a bit on the dull side, as Fuduo just wasn't that much of an interesting character. Her relationship with Kazumi, a younger female model, was about the only thing keeping her from being one-dimensional. The fight sequences left me mostly unimpressed as well.

The Devil Lady is presented in 1.33:1 full frame. The transfer is terrific throughout with vibrant colors and no instances of cross coloration. There is some grain; however, it is relatively minor and rarely distracts.

Audio:
The Devil Lady is presented in Dolby 2.0 Stereo in Japanese or English. The stereo track is solid with some good instances of directionality. Dialogue is crisp and clean throughout with no distortion. Optional subtitles in English are included.

Extras:
Extras include clean opening and closing animations, four pieces of original artwork, the show's original trailer, and trailers for other ADV releases.

Summary:
Anime fans interested in a horror title might want to consider The Devil Lady, though a rental is recommended over a blind purchase, as the series seemed a bit too dull for my tastes.
