The Movie: I'm sure you've seen bits and pieces of this comic classic on Comedy Central all the time (note that it must be a comic classic because it's on Comedy Central). Now, Back to School finally hits DVD and DVD will never be the same. Well, maybe it will be - the tale of good ol' Rodney Dangerfield re-entering college to help his ailing son, and at the same time becoming the life of the party, is funny, but the jokes get old and Rodney buying himslef out of any and all trouble is repetitive. Sure, it's a comic classic, due to the fact that it stars Rodney Dangerfield, the master of one-liners (and believe me, this one is full of them), but with the stereotyped characters and all-but-too-predictable plot, there aren't many good parts of the film. There's some great Rodney one-liners, but without them the film would be nothing, and in the end, it's just not much more than that.

The Picture: The picture is good, coming from a 1986 film, but without an anamorphic transfer, there's really no point to buying this disc. It features both widescreen and standard (i.e. Comedy Central version) which is a plus for some people who prefer standard (not me), but other than that, there's nothing to really laud about the picture on this disc.

The Sound: The sound is mediocre, only featuring Dolby 2.0 Surround (most likely the original theatrical sound), which is subpar to those of us who have grown accustomed to Dolby 5.1 and DTS (wish I had THX capabilities too - not for this disc, of course). The sound is acceptable for 2.0, but nothing special. I didn't notice any abnormalities or problems, which is probably the only plus to the sound.

The Extras: Extras? Oh yeah, they're there - wait they're not, well... Featuring only the trailer and a "collectible booklet," Back to School fails in this department. The trailer is the standard fare and the "collectible booklet" is far from collectible. Only 2 pages, front and back, there's really nothing special or collectible about this booklet (if you really want to call it that). For $24.95, this disc is way overpriced for the amount of extras (or lack of) provided. No anamorphic transfer either to justify the $25 pricetag.

Conclusion: In conclusion, if you love this comic classic, you'll probably love the DVD (or crave more). The extras are sparse and without an anamorphic transfer, the $25 pricetag is unjustified. If you must have this movie in your collection, get this one (there doesn't appear to be a special edition on the way - maybe there will be a 25th anniversary edition, but that won't be until 2016).
