Major League 2

The Movie:
Before it began to go further South with the 3rd installment, "Major League 2" retains the similar comedic strengths of the first film, as well as many of the same cast members. It's not art, but it does provide for a few laughs.
The film plays out a continuation of the first story: many of the same characters return, most importantly, Charlie Sheen as Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughn. The team has been having trouble for the majority of the season. The predictable track the film takes leads the audience through the season, and whether the team will bounce back or not? Is there really any question?
This is one of those movies that has to "live for the moment" and get by from joke to joke, because the ending is inevitable. There are a couple of laughs here and there from the team, but the best part of the movie has to be Randy Quaid as a loud-mouthed fan shouting from the stands. Besides Quaid, most of the cast does a mediocre job.
Not a total loss, but could have done something besides bring back jokes and situations from the original.
The DVD
VIDEO: Warner Brothers has done a very good job with the transfer for "Major League 2", although, like the 3rd edition in the series, there are some flaws. Images are sharp, detailed and nicely rendered throughout. Colors are fine as well, looking solid and nicely saturated, with no problems. Black level is good and flesh tones are accurate and natural.
There are a few minor flaws here and there; a mark or two on the print appears, but isn't major enough to be distracting. Pixelation is occasional, but not distracting, and there is no shimmering to be found. Not a home run, but at least a strong double.
SOUND: I wasn't expecting a whole lot from the audio on this movie and although the sound is not agressive in nature, the quality is pleasing. This "All New Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack" offers limited surround use, as well as a strong presentation of the score, however cheesy it may be. Dialogue is clear for the majority of the time, but occasionally, it seemed a little thin. Not a groundbreaking soundtrack, but it gets the job done.
MENUS:: Both "Major League 2" and "3" have nicely done animated menus with slight animation and the score playing in the background.
EXTRAS: The trailer, cast and crew bios, as well as trailers for "Ace Ventura" and "Major League 3".
