Will Smith Video Collection
List Price: Unknown [Buy now and save at Amazon]
The Movie:
Will Smith has gone through a number of levels including TV stardom on the way to becoming one of the most popular and multi-talented artists in the entertainment business, with a number of hit films and blockbuster albums. Although this "video collection" only has a lot of Smith's recent music video hits, the sound quality is remarkably good. Like the music or not, the DVD provides a fine look at the star's recent efforts.
Included Are:
Men In Black
Just Cruisin'
Gettin' Jiggy Wit It
Just The Two Of Us
Miami
Wild Wild West
Will 2K
The DVD
VIDEO: Again, it really depends on the video, but most of the videos offer a consistently strong presentation. Images are sharp and offer good detail, and excellent clarity. Smith's music is bright and fun and so are the videos - colors are eye-popping at times, but never way-over-the-top or presenting any problems on this presentation. Flesh tones are accurate and problems are minimal. There's just a little trace of pixelation once or twice, but other than that, the videos look excellent.
SOUND: Smith's early hits were catchy, simple tunes that became huge hits - his recent songs are still major hits, but have become major productions, with layers of beats, effects and more wrapped up in the package. The sound on these videos offer the same sense of fun that Smith's music does, spreading these effects creatively throughout the listening space, and the result is wonderfully entertaining. Surrounds are used very effectively and playfully, and the songs(as expected) bring a good deal of bass to the table with them. The highlights in terms of audio are "Gettin' Jiggy With It", "Men In Black" and "Wild, Wild West" . I think fans of the singer will really enjoy the quality of the sound on this presentation.
MENUS:: Slightly animated main menus with Smith's music playing in the background - the animation leading to the sub-menus are also very well done.
EXTRAS: Two short featurettes - one is the making of "Will 2k" and the other is a series of bloopers. Also included is a bio and extra song: "So Fresh". Fun stuff, and it does a nice job of rounding out the group of videos.
Final Thoughts: It's a little on the thin side for an entire package, but the video quality is good and the audio is remarkably good, so if you like Smith's music, this is definitely recommended.
