Tina Turner: Live In Amsterdam(DTS)
List Price: Unknown [Buy now and save at Amazon]
The Movie:
I've seen a lot of concerts in my time and I've watched quite a number of concert DVDs, but I can say that I don't think I've ever seen as energetic a performance as the one that Tina Turner gives on this presentation, a remarkably intense, soulful concert that shows off Tina's fantastic voice with some of her biggest hits like "Proud Mary" and "What's Love Got To Do With It".
If anything, the only thing that I didn't care for was the fact that director David Mallet, who may be an award-winning concert director, occasionally makes the show feel a little too busy, cutting and using rapid movement when Tina and the backup group should simply be the focus. Either way, the audio on this DTS version of the concert is remarkably good, and fans of the singer will be very pleased.
The DVD
VIDEO/AUDIO: I really was very entertained by the audio that the DTS version of the concert provided - although this is an extremely big show with a major crowd, the viewer still has a "front-row" feel that is quite enjoyable, with surrounds providing the cheering crowd noise on occasion. The music retains a dynamic feel that provides power without becoming overwhelming. Every note comes through with crystal clarity, and Tina's voice is magnificent; the audio on this DVD captures every bit of soul and richness in her voice perfectly - it sounds so good, it seems like Tina is singing in the same room.
The picture quality is fine as well, although not as impressive as the audio. The full-frame image remains clean and clear, with the complex lighting effects captured well. Detail is good, and flesh tones remain accurate and natural.
MENUS:: The only menu is really a simple song list.
EXTRAS: Nothing
Final Thoughts: Yes, there's no extras, but the audio and video quality as well as the amazing performance still make this a definite recommendation.
