Background

Farscape is a science fiction cable television series that chronicles the life of an astronaut, John Crichton, who's thrown into another part of the Universe by means of a wormhole. He appears in the middle of a space battle, accidentally killing the brother of an important alien commander just before taking refuge with a group of escaped prisoners of various species. As the series progresses, his life is turned upside down when he is given advanced knowledge of wormholes by an even more advanced alien race. This knowledge causes him to be hunted down by the dominant species of the region who think it will give them a strategic advantage against their enemies.

Movie: Farscape 3.2 is the second two disc set of season three that chronicle the life and times of John Crichton and the crew of Moya who are all looking to go home and escape the hostile forces that are closing in on them. A brief recap seems in order at this point. Moya is a living spaceship capable of interstellar travel. She is controlled by a large being called Pilot and the crew consists of John, the human, D'Argo, a warrior imprisoned wrongfully by his dead wife's brother, Chianna, a young gal who's morals are flexible, Aeryn, a Peacekeeper who originally was working for the group trying to capture the crew and ship, Rygel, an alien ruler who is the equivalent of a political prisoner, Jool, an alien with unique abilities, and Stark, a former captive of the main enemy (Scorpius) that has some sort of psychic power but has gone slightly mad from his exposure to certain previous events. Here's a brief description of the five episodes here as provided by ADV (to minimize spoilers):

Different Destinations
While at a Peacekeeper memorial, Crichton and the crew are pulled back in time into a great siege between Peacekeepers and the Venek Horde. As they try to stay alive and get back to their own time, they realize that every action changes the course of history—with devastating effects on the future. After their bumbling around with the time stream, the crew realizes that they sometimes just have to accept that their actions have consequences to the rest of the Universe.

Eat Me
Their Transport Pod damaged, Crichton, Chiana, D'Argo and Jool are forced to land on an old, diseased Leviathan in a Peacekeeper Control Collar. Their fears of running into Peacekeepers are soon replaced by terrifyingly real foes: mutant scavengers… and Kaarvok, a madman with an horrific taste for brain matter. With a time constraint and the fear of being captured, if not eaten, can the crew save the day? Unlikely!

Thanks For Sharing
Crichton has been duplicated into two identical Crichtons. Moya's crew, trying to buy a healing agent for the injured gunship Talyn, become embroiled in a planet's deadly politics. Meanwhile, Aeryn discovers that her own mother is leading the Peacekeeper Retrieval Squad sent to recapture Talyn. Old ties popping up is a common theme for the series-rather than the typical television show where you can interchange most episodes without causing problems.

Green Eyed Monster
When Talyn is swallowed by a giant Budong, Crais' neural connection to Talyn malfunctions, and he asks Aeryn to help him control the hybrid gunship. Warily avoiding the Budong in a Transport Pod, Stark and Rygel come up with a way for Talyn to escape, but Crichton's jealousy complicates the plan... Ben Browder wrote this one and his commentary revealed some interesting details about the show in general. keeping in mind that Talon is one of the most powerful, kickbutt gunships in the Universe, anything that can nearly kill him is not to be trifled with.

Losing Time
After passing through a magnetic cluster, the crew experiences blackouts and periods of lost time. They discover that Pilot has been possessed by a strange being. The being inside Pilot warns our crew that an evil "Energy Rider" inhabits one of them, and if that person isn't found—and the Rider extracted—the crew will all die. There were several deleted scenes to this one and much of what happened related to the expendability of the cast-if the creatures couldn't be pushed out, would the crew be able to kill them?

Picture: The picture was presented in full frame 1.33:1 ratio and looked great! I saw no artifacts or other problems with it. The blacks were clean and looked "true" and the fleshtones were very accurate.

Sound: The sound options included 5.1 Dolby Digital or 2.0 stereo. Both were very solid and far superior to the original cable television presentation with some noticeable separation between the channels.

Extras: Behind the Scenes interviews with Anthony Simcoe (D'Argo) and Ben Browder (Crichton), Commentary for Green Eyed Monster by Ben Browder (and some crew members, Farscape trailers (to the individual shows), several deleted scenes, alien encounters (learn about the various lifeforms from each show), set/prop/costume gallery, updated character histories, Farscape facts, credits, trailers. In all, the commentary and interviews, along with the deleted scenes, were very solid extras.

Final Thoughts: I liked the return to having 5 episodes and maintaining the cool extras like the commentary, deleted scenes and a couple of interviews. The show was fun to watch on cable and the viewing experience greatly enhanced on dvd. On top of that, the character development was such that while you could conceivably watch these episodes apart from the rest of the series, you'd miss a lot of insight the earlier shows provided. In any case, it was easily worth a rating of Highly Recommended.
