The story revolves around a group of terrorists who find out a perfect plan for taking over Tokyo exists and they want it at all costs. They started off by testing one aspect of the plan and attack the infamous Bokuto police station, knowing that most of the officers are off on a wild goose chase, except for Miyuki and Natsume, who try to hold down the fort, Die Hard style, as their reinforcements hopefully arrive in time to save them. The terrorists up the ante, when it's learned the secret plan has actually been updated and could be used to destroy a lot more than Japan. When the gals of the Bukuto Traffic Corps find this out, they pull all stops to creatively fight off the bad guys and secure the city, and the world, from the machinations of the unknown bad guys. Along the way, they also are confronted by an internal problem when the Chief is placed under arrest by his boss.

Personally, I like the television episodes better than any of the specials or the feature movie itself. The zany antics of the cute young traffic cops who will do anything they have to to get a mission accomplished is appealing to me. The Mini-Special dvd was pretty solid in that regard as well. The biggest limitation of the feature is that it takes characters I'm used to being outlandish in day to day circumstances and it places them in a whole different light. Normally, I'd applaud the growth of the characters but there was simply too big a leap here without anything pressing to explain it away. That doesn't mean I didn't like the show-far from it-I just would've preferred something a little lighter than what was shown here.

The voice acting on the English language dub was also well done here and a few of my associates preferred it over the original Japanese track too, telling me the acting was better than average in their well versed eyes. As a supplement to the regular series, this feature is a must have for collectors and I hope that those new to the show don't base their expectations on what they've seen before-it's almost a whole new show. As such, I'm rating this one as Recommended although some unique extras would've helped it earn a higher rating too.

Picture: The picture was presented in 1.85:1 ratio widescreen color and looked very clear. There were no artifacts that I saw and only a bit of fuzziness when some bright colors appeared on the screen.

Sound: The sound was presented with a choice of Dolby Digital either 2.0 English, English with song subtitles, or Japanese with English subtitles. The vocals were very clear as was the music and I noticed a good amount of separation between the audio channels when sound effects were used.

Final Thoughts: There were a number of little details that I really liked about this release-from the music to the very interesting dvd cover to the overall plot, the show was well made. I suppose my biggest complaint was that the characters weren't quite what they had been in the series and as a fan, I get attached to the mannerisms I'm used to as much as anyone. That's not ADV's fault-they did a great job with what they were given-and I hope they continue to release as much good anime as they have lately.
