Rune Soldier - A True Champion (Vol. 3)
Episode 9: What Comes In Summer:
Ila, one of Louie's friends, asks him and his team to help her investigate a retired wizard, Master Bernard, who was experimenting with a weather control device. When the weather starts going nuts, the team get the assistance of Celecia, an elf friend of Louie who assists them in making their way to the wizard's castle.
Episode 10: The Tower Of The Four Great Magics:
The spirits of nature have gone insane and Celicia can't control them so the crew is extra careful when they approach the tower. They make it in but are attacked by a large golem when Louie screws up the password. After a lengthy fight, it becomes apparent that the spirits guarding the weather machine will freeze anyone solid that approaches it, and only Louie has a plan. Yikes!
Episode 11: The True Hero Appears?:
While at a bar, the team finds a mission that promises great rewards, finding a lost crystal miner. The team finds that Melissa's priestess rival Isabel has assembled a team of her own that mirrors, in some ways, her own team and the two try to accomplish it first, to reap the reward. After finding the miner, Gonga, who doesn't want to be found, they end up squabbling over who should claim the reward until events take a turn for the worse.
Episode 12: Flowers Of A Moonlit Night:
The team is at their local bar when a little girl hires them to find a rare flower for her dying grandmother. The only one to be found is in the Magician's Guild greenhouse but Louie's dad is away so they can't get to it. Louie, not being big on following rules, decides it's okay to steal it and the consequences get pretty slimy.
Picture: The picture was presented in 1.33:1 full frame. The colors were very bright and the picture sharp and clear. There were no compression artifacts and it looked great.
Sound: The audio was presented in English Dolby Digital 5.1 or 2.0 Japanese with English subtitles. Both sounded crisp and clear.
Extras: trailers, double sided dvd cover, paper insert with episode descriptions and art work, a couple of postcards and some temporary tattoos
Final Thoughts: A lot of series run out of steam by this point, mostly because the grueling production schedules but also due to the pitfall of relying on the same old jokes being so easy to do. Luckily, this was not the case here and the episodes were almost stand alone in nature (with the two part story at the beginning a bit important to watch in order) so even if you haven't seen the earlier dvds, it'll still have a lot going for it. If the rest of the series is this good, ADV may have to commission a new season for release on dvd.
