The Movie:
This is the 6th volume of the Circuit Music Series, which has evolved greatly from the first effort that was released a while ago. Little improvements have been made each time out, making the latest edition even more of a value to DVD fans.
The general layout is still the same on this edition, offering sections to organize different offerings; one part offers interviews with artists or follows them along on a trip. Another section offers music videos and also, one offers live performances. My favorite section is usually the one dealing with movies - the "Soundtrack" section. For this edition, the focus is on "The Virgin Suicides", the debut film of director Sofia Coppola. This element of the disc offers interviews, the trailer(Dolby Digital 5.1) and clips from the movie.
Other artists whose work is showcased on this edition are: The Eels, Nash Kato(formerly of "Urge Overkill"), Cracker, Aimee Mann, Michael Penn and Air.
The DVD
VIDEO: Video quality varies from video to video. Although most look perfectly fine, sequences occasionally look slightly soft and a tiny bit grainy. Colors are good, looking bold and clean, never showing any signs of bleeding. Problems are pretty minimal; there's some slight shimmering on occasion, but no visible pixelation.
SOUND: Circuit editions have been more and more in Dolby Digital 5.1; this edition seems to be completely in 5.1, even some of the interview segements. Although the sound is a little odd in some sequences (the clips for "The Virgin Suicides" had the dialogue coming from the surrounds), it's good to see that Circuit's commitment to 5.1 is continuing.
MENUS:: There is still a clip to open the disc, but thankfully, the clips between menus have now been replaced with a nice little bit of animation. The main menu offers music in the background in Dolby Digital 5.1, as well as some light animation.
EXTRAS: Trailers for Warner Brothers movies as well as some alternate audio options during a couple of the clips.
Final Thoughts: I wasn't a fan of any of the bands offered on this edition of Circuit, but still, the series remains a great value at $14.99 retail, and as low as $10.99 online; it offers good audio and video, as well as some solid clips/performances. Recommended - mainly for fans of the band involved.
