House Party

The Movie: No doubt you've seen the edited version on some cable channel, but there's only one true version of House Party! The DVD features this classic comedy in all it's R rated glory. Sure, it's no Citizen Kane, but still, if you want to have some fun and see some silly antics, House Party is for you.

The Picture: Not really any noticeable problems with the picture once the movie started, but during the opening credits, it was possible to make out some pixelation in the black areas. Other than that, I noticed no problems. An anamorphic transfer would have been nice, but New Line does provide both Widescreen and Fullscreen versions of this film on the same disc.

The Sound: The sound is acceptable, but certainly not something to show off your system with. During the dance scenes at the party is really the only time that you get anything even remotely resembling surround sound. They claim it's Dolby Surround 5.1, but the disc hardly ever makes use of this. Nonetheless, I didn't have any problems with the sound.

The Extras: Pretty meager extras. There's a theatrical trailer and some cast and crew filmographies included. There's some extra trailers hidden within the filmographies, but that's about the extent of the "extras."

Conclusion: If you liked House Party, you'll like the DVD - if you didn't, don't get the DVD. At $24.95, it's a bit steep for the amount of extras (or lack thereof). A more reasonable price would have been $19.95, but if you're a fan, you won't be disappointed.
