Review:
Movie:
Gorgeous, directed by Vincent Kok, is the newest Hong Kong Jackie Chan movie. The film starts in a small fishing village in Taiwan, where Bu (Shu Qi) discovers a message in a bottle that reads, "I'm waiting for you in Hong Kong. Albert." Thinking this is the most romantic thing she's ever heard of, she boards a flight to Hong Kong quickly thereafter, leaving behind Louie, who had just proposed to her. In Hong Kong, she manages to find Albert (Tong Leung), only to discover that he is gay, and the note was written to his now ex-boyfriend. Disappointed, she is set to return home when Albert asks her to join him for a boat photo-shoot on the ocean. She accepts, and while at sea, she spies C.N. Chan (Jackie Chan) on another ship with a woman. It is not long before Howie, a gangster whose woman Chan is with and Chan's boyhood chum, shows up with his thugs determined to teach Chan a lesson. Of course, Chan manages to escape, with the help of Bu, who rescues him in Albert's smaller boat. On the way back to Hong Kong, the two manage to crash the boat, stranding them on a small reef where they spend the night looking at the stars and talking. Rescued in the morning, they return to Chan's home and she discovers that he's a lonely millionaire businessman and later leaves to hatch a plan with Albert in order to win Chan's affection. However, when her plan of assuming the identity of another gangster's girlfriend runs astray, Chan must fight to protect them both.

Gorgeous is a nice diversion from the typical Jackie Chan action flick. It's filled with a few intense one on one fights, but the main focus is on the blossoming romance between Chan and Bu. The performances are great, especially Chan's, Qi's, and Leung's, and the story is entertaining and enjoyable.

Picture:
Gorgeous is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and full frame. The picture looks fantastic: colors are bright and vibrant and flesh tones are accurate. However, and only a few times, small specks are visible in the print. Not distracting, but worth mentioning as besides this, the print is just…gorgeous.

Sound:
Gorgeous contains both the original Cantonese soundtrack in Dolby Digital 5.1 and a new English dub in Dolby Digital 5.1. The surround is actively used in the main fight sequences and sounds great, but it is only occasionally used throughout the rest of the film. The English dub job could've used some work though, as its pretty horrid; thankfully, optional English subtitles are present.

Extras:
Extras include the aforementioned English subtitles in yellow, a 30 minute Making-Of Featurette with interviews of the principal actors, a "music video," Jackie Chan's talent file, and an audio commentary featuring Jackie Chan. None of the music video is in English though, so the title is a mystery; however, in small print on the case it credits Dennie Wong with the film's music. The audio commentary with Jackie Chan was pretty interesting and entertaining; it's a great treat for Jackie Chan's many fans.

Summary:
Columbia/Tri-Star has put together a fantastic disc for Gorgeous, with terrific audio and video, and some quality extras. Fans of Jackie Chan should definitely check out Gorgeous.
