Music For Montserrat (DTS)

The Movie:
Image Entertainment's new release of the 1997 concert benefit for the island of Montserrat. Songs: Take Me Home (Phil Collins), Hot, Hot, Hot (Arrow), Blue Suede Shoes (Carl Perkins), Volcano (Jimmy Buffett), Brothers in Arms, Money For Nothing (Mark Knopfler), Message In a Bottle, Magic (Sting), Your Song, Live Like Horses, Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me (Elton John), Broken Hearted, Layla, Same Old Blues (Eric Clapton), Yesterday, Golden Slumbers, Hey Jude, Kansas City (Paul McCartney). Collins opens the concert with a lively rendition of "Take Me Home", and other highlights include Sting's edition of "Message in A Bottle" and "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic". Those are particularly good sections, but I found all of the singers to offer particularly exciting performances, giving their best.
The DVD
VIDEO/AUDIO: Again, Image Entertainment thankfully includes the choice of either DTS or Dolby Digital audio. While both sound quite good, the DTS takes the lead slightly with added warm and a deeper, richer sound that is entirely pleasing. Just listen to Sting's powerful voice reach out through the hall during "Message In A Bottle". Like that song, vocals for all of the songs are exceptionally clear and smooth.
Surrounds are used lightly to reinforce the presentation, and thankfully never draw attention to themselves here; they only add to the enjoyment. The audio from the front is especially well-defined, with instruments and vocals never overshadowing one another. The music is quite well-defined and every note comes through with very strong clarity. The overall concert has a warmth to it that makes it enjoyable as well; it never sounds thin or tiring to listen to. Again, I'm glad that Image included both DTS and Dolby Digital.
The full-frame image contains excellent quality, with an image that's consistently crisp, if not sharp, and has good detail. Colors are solid as well, and I didn't see any instances of pixelation or other such problems.
MENUS:: Basic menus offer audio options and song listing.
EXTRAS: None.
Final Thoughts: Very enjoyable sound and picture quality presents some great performances quite well.
