The Movie:

Actress Gina Gershon has become a favorite actress of many over the years, despite the tendency for her to be typecast in roles as the bad girl, the tough chick. Gershon has made the most of these moments: witness her marvelous performance against Jennifer Tilly in the mob thriller "Bound". Recently, Gershon starred in the punk rock movie "Prey For Rock and Roll". The studio gave the actress an ultimatum: go on a concert tour to promote the movie or we'll release it on 3 screens.

The actress decided to not only do it, but turn it into a series. "Rocked With Gina Gershon" has the actress scrambling - within a matter of a couple of weeks - to try and pull together a small tour. She finds bandmates in famed indie band Girls Against Boys and heads out, only to find that touring ain't easy. The first show doesn't go entirely well, Gershon has to deal with reviews of her music, fifteen-hundred people show up to a venue holding 990 people and both male and female fans go crazy for Gershon (her bandmates dub her L.L. Cool G - "Lesbians Love Cool Gena".)

Well-shot and edited, every half-hour episode of the show moves along at a good clip. There's a fair amount of conflict, trials and drama to keep audiences involved. Gershon, despite not exactly being the world's best singer, is a fun personality to watch. The show also provides a nice balance between showing the musical side of things and inserting some aspects of looking at the promotion of the film - we see Gershon dealing with interviews and a premiere of the movie that isn't exactly the red carpet affair the actress was hoping for.

Overall, "Rocked" is a fun series: Gershon is captivating, the show takes what seems to be a very honest look at life on the road - there's a lot of fun and surprises to be had throughout the six episodes.

The DVD

VIDEO: "Rocked" is presented in 1.33:1 full-frame, as it was on when it was presented on IFC. The image quality is generally very good; the show appears to have been shot on different DV cameras and while the majority of the images appear crisp and clean, some that look to have been shot with different cameras or are shot in low-light situations look a bit grainy or hazy. No edge enhancement or noticable pixelation appeared, while colors remained bright and vivid.

SOUND: "Rocked" is presented in Dolby 2.0. The audio remains crisp and clear, with no distortion or other faults. Played back in Pro Logic II, the sound maintains a nice spread across the front speakers. All conversations are well-recorded and easily understood.

EXTRAS: 9 deleted scenes and plenty of trailers/text promos for other titles from Documrama.

Final Thoughts: "Rocked" was a highly entertaining and often funny show, providing a compelling look at life on the road for an actress not used to being on a concert tour. Docurama's DVD edition provides good audio/video quality and a couple of fine supplements. Recommended.
