Let's just start by saying, this is a "Jaws" ripoff however, this is an exceptionally well done ripoff! The film goes like this: a group of scientists have genetically altered the brains of Mako sharks in an attempt to harvest a protein that will virtually wipe out all degenerative brain disorders in humans. Samuel L. Jackson plays the wealthy backer of the institutions' research. Until now however, the findings have been less than promising. As such Sam Jackson gives the research team one last try to acheive their goals or the funding will be pulled. Assured of their success, the team's leader (Saffron Burrows) invites Jackson to not only tour the facility but witness the landmark harvesting & use of the protein firsthand. Not one to lose an investment, Jackson goes to the facility and learns all too quickly that the research team has done more than they were supposed to. After a series of jolts, scares & unexpected stingers, the tables are turned on the research team & they are systematically hunted, herded and eaten by the "super" sharks they have unwittingly created. Out here, all alone, in the Deep Blue Sea. The audio is a 5.1 digital experience that totally utilizes your home theater. The video is a crystalline anamorphic transfer that has to be seen to be believed. The colors are vibrant, rich & true to form. The extras are as follows: A director's commentary, Trailer, A making of feature, web links, cast & crew bios & a special "the sharks of the Deep Blue Sea" Featurette. The commentary in particular is great fun, especially Samuel L. Jackson's input. Overall, I loved this movie & have enjoyed it each time I've watched it. If you go into the film wanting to have fun, you'll easily reach your goal. There are times when the sharks look a little too much like the "Cinnaburst gum" sharks but for the most part they are terrifying! I highly recommend this film.
