Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo

The Movie:
The title sounded stupid, the trailer looked pretty stupid, but suprisingly, "Deuce Bigalow" rounded up a fairly major sum of cash at the box office when it was released last Winter. After sitting down to watch it, I actually found it quite funny - yes, it's simply toilet humor, but the timing is good and the jokes are pretty amusing.
We are introduced to the main character, Deuce(Rob Schnieder) in the begining of the film. A fish tank cleaner by nature, Deuce stumbles into a job for Antoine, a guy who turns out to be a gigalo. One of the funniest scenes of the film is when Deuce finds out what he does; "I'm going to kill my guidance counselor!" he says. Of course, as with any comedy like this one, things go quite wrong and the fish tank of Antoine's takes a pretty solid fall.
Looking for a way to make the cash back, he takes on Antoine's job, to pretty hilarious results. It's nothing that great, a pretty-light weight flick, but I did think this was a solid character with some good lines and funny bits. Once he hooks up with a pimp(Eddie Griffin), he begins finding clients, and falls in love with one.
Schneider's actually pretty funny; he's not a great actor, but "Deuce Bigalow" proves that he actually is able to carry a short comedy like this one pretty well. It's gross, it's silly, it's stupid, but I actually found myself laughing at it all.
The DVD
VIDEO: Another very good anamorphic transfer from Disney; although they pretty much drop the ball in most other aspects of DVD, once they actually decided to put some effort into image quality, they've done fine work. "Deuce Bigalow" is not exactly a visual masterpiece by any means, but images remain sharp and clear, with only a few slight exceptions. Detail remains consistently good, too. Colors remain bright and sunny, looking vibrant and well-saturated throughout, with no problems. Flesh tones are accurate, as well.
There are a few minor things that I noted; a little trace of pixelation once or twice and some minor shimmering; the print also has some slight marks and scratches on occasion, but nothing hugely distracting. Not perfect, but still a pretty good looking image throughout.
SOUND: "Deuce Bigalow" is seriously a basic movie in terms of sound; there really isn't much at all to it - hardly any surround use throughout, but the music score does have a nice, bassy presence to it. Dialogue is clear, as well. Again, don't go in expecting much, but it does get the job done.
MENUS:: Some basic, film-themed main menus that are non-animated.
EXTRAS:Shockingly, Disney has actually put a couple of extras on this disc. Not so stunning is the fact that the "preview trailers" that play when the disc is first inserted make a return appearance yet again.

Storyboard To Scene Comparison: Who thought "Deuce Bigalow" would need storyboards? Who thought Disney would have extras on a DVD? It's a day full of suprises. Anyways, we get a split screen comparison for two scenes with the bottom half showing the final scene and the top half showing the storyboards for the scene. The two scenes are "A Date With Tina" and "Wolfie and the Wiener Schnitzel".
Production Featurette: A very short production featurette that only lasts a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, you won't learn much about the technical processes and special visual effects needed to bring "Deuce Bigalow" to the screen(kidding...)
Final Thoughts: Yes, it's definitely not art, but I thought it was actually pretty funny. Disney's DVD is nothing too wonderful, but if you're in the mood for some silly laughs, "Deuce" is worth a rental.
