DVD Savant: The Leopard
This week The DVD Savant has reviews of The Godfather - Coppola's breakthrough epic returns as a separate release that seems identical to the pressing in the previous boxed set, Winsor McKay The Master Edition - this Canadian collection gathers all of McKay's existing animated shorts, Judex - French serial maker Louis Feuillade pioneers the caped superhero in this thrilling, charming tale of extortion, kidnapping, lifelong vendettas and fantastic rescues, Duel in the Sun - David O. Selznick's western opus looks better than ever but the soundtrack is weak this go-round, Morituri - Yul Brynner and Marlon Brando make excellent thriller leads in this tense and uncompromising WW2 spy tale on the high seas and The Leopard - The once-unseeable Visconti masterpiece becomes one of Criterion's finest achievements.
