This Week's Notable DVDs (8/17-8/24)
This week is a great week for fans of Martin Scorsese with the release of The Martin Scorsese Collection featuring: After Hours [Review], Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore [Review], Mean Streets [Review], Who's Knocking at My Door and the highly anticipated Goodfellas: 2 Disc Special Edition. Another great American Director Steven Spielberg has 2 early films on DVD this week - Duel [Review] and The Sugarland Express [Review]. Showing that the US hasn't cornered the market on great directors, Palm Pictures has Hou Hsiao-hsien's Millennium Mambo [Review] - a deliciously texturized movie that you should definitely seek out. Other notable DVDs this week include: Connie And Carla [Review] - with Nia Vardalos and Toni Collette in a fantastic gender bending comedy, Taking Lives - Director's Cut [Review] - DJ Caruso's less-than-perfect thriller just might be a good weekend rental, Godsend [Review] - a great cast with a terrible script make it a morbid curiosity rental, Da Ali G Show: Season 1 [Review] - a love it or hate it comedy from HBO and Seeing Other People [Review] - a notable release from the Sundance Channel. Read our Complete List of Upcoming DVDs for more great DVDs out this week, and visit our DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including a new section devoted entirely to reviews of DVDs out this week.
