DVD Savant: Easy Rider, Castle Keep and Deadline
This week, The DVD Savant has reviews of Castle Keep (Widescreen Version) - Columbia TriStar goes back on the Good Guy list with this quick response to the outrage over last July's pan-scan only release of this bizarre Panavision war film, Deadline - a state governor commutes the sentences of over 150 death row inmates, and the media covered it as a liberal outrage, Garden of Allah - Marlene Dietrich charms Charles Boyer out of a monastery in this lushly romantic, ridiculously fun early Technicolor bauble from David O. Selznick, Easy Rider 35th Anniversary Deluxe Edition - The big counterculture watershed of the late 60 gets a deluxe treatment - it says so on the box, The Trojan Women - Michael Cacoyannis does interesting things with the ancient Euripides play and Suspicion - This famous suspense pairing of Cary Grant and Joan Fontaine leaves Savant cold - for his cranky 2 bits it's among Hitchcock's least interesting movies. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
