DVD Savant: Major Dundee, The Silent Star and The Thin Man
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Major Dundee - The Extended Version - Savant doesn't review his favorite film, he writes a book. Those readers not already absolute Peckinpah fanatics can check out the details on Sony's disc extras, but the joy of this obsession is really getting into the mystery; The Silent Star - First Run Features comes up with a subtitled disc of the original East German-Polish version we saw here as First Spaceship on Venus; Curly Top - Shirley Temple burst off the screen to lighten the hearts of the unemployed Americans of 1935; The Complete Thin Man Collection - Taken as a bunch, the films are like a miniseries that took 13 years to play out, but Myrna Loy we can watch forever; The Barkleys of Broadway -
The final Astaire & Rogers film is an MGM Technicolor show made ten years down the line, and not quite the same experience as the earlier pictures. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
