DVD Savant: Adventures of Superman, The Sound of Music and Oklahoma
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: Billion Dollar Brain - Michael Caine returns for a third go as Harry Palmer, workaday secret agent; The Concert for Bangladesh - The 1972 concert film looks a lot better on DVD than it did blown up to 70mm from cropped 16mm; The Sound of Music 40th Anniversary Edition - Fox's gargantuan two disc set has (finally) a good transfer of the film, along with a raft of good extras; The Fugitive Kind - Marlon Brando juggles Anna Magnani and Joanne Woodward in Tennesse William's grim allegory, out of director Sidney Lumet; Adventures of Superman The Complete First Season - Warners controls most of the various film incarnations of Superman and does affectionate justice to the show's crime-flavored first season; Oklahoma! - Fox brings out a double disc set with extensive extras on everyone's favorite Rodgers and Hammerstein musical; The Missouri Breaks - Jack Nicholson and Marlon Brando chew up the sagebrush scenery quite well until Brando goes screwy on us. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
