Silent DVD: Leni Riefenstahl's The Blue Light and the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake
This month Silent DVD has a look at two interesting discs. First Leni Riefenstahl makes her directorial debut as well as stars in picturesque movie The Blue Light. A well crafted and entertaining film, it clearly shows the talent that Riefenstahl would later use when directing her most famous films. Next we go back in time 100 years to look at the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 with the aptly titled The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake Cinema Centennial. This disc contains rarely seen films from just before and after the devastating earthquake and fire that killed thousands and nearly destroyed the city. Be sure to check out the previous installments including the 2006 San Francisco Silent Film Festival and the Gloria Swanson and Rudolph Valentino film Beyond the Rocks.
