DVD Savant: Flash Gordon, The Lives of Others and She
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including:
Flash Gordon - Dino De Laurentiis' Disco-riffic comic strip epic comes to DVD in a extra super special Savior of the Universe Edition; Un chien Andalou - Luis Bunuel's epochal surrealist short subject includes interesting interviews with his son, Jean-Luis; Les enfants terribles - Jean-Pierre Melville's first film was this disturbing psychodrama about a possessive sister and a sickly brother; Showgirls -
The critical commentary and trivia tracks on this Fully Exposed Edition make Paul Verhoeven's noxious melodrama almost watchable; The Lives of Others - This year's winner of the Best Foreign Film is a superb spy drama about the oppressive policies of the East German Stasi secret police; She (Deluxe Two Disc Edition) - Buried behind a colorized version and several infomercials is a fine full-length copy of Merian C. Cooper's super-production. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
