This Week's Notable DVDs: Hellboy II, The Clone Wars, and Quo Vadis
With the holidays approaching, there are a virtual tidal wave of new high profile movies, TV series, and boxed sets being released. Some of the more notable titles include: Hellboy II: The Golden Army [3-Disc SE review, Collector's Set review] - a movie that reaches the heart, while entertaining the mind and pumping up the adrenaline as well; Star Wars: The Clone Wars [1st review, 2nd review] - A grand-scale cartoon filled-to-the-brim with dazzling battles, dorky humor and dry battle plans hiding simple messages, it's basically the perfect vehicle for George Lucas's vision; and Quo Vadis [review]- the last big epic of the Golden Era at MGM, has some visceral action sequences as well as a knockout performance by a young Peter Ustinov as Nero.
Other releases of note include: Walt Disney Treasures: The Chronological Donald, Vol. 4 - 1951-1961, Sunset Boulevard - The Centennial Collection [review], and Band of Brothers [Blu-ray].
