Louis Malle's daring film of Wallace Shawn and Andre Gregory's autobiographical screenplay is a surprisingly engaging, uplifting experience; and The Seventh Seal [Blu-ray] - Ingmar Bergman's classic can boast the most recognizable art film image of all -- Max von Sydow's medieval knight playing chess with Death. Criterion's disc offers a terrific new transfer. The movie is spooky, but warmly human and funny, too. The Blu-ray comes with the entire documentary feature Bergman Island.
