DVD Savant: The General, Tora-San, and The Universal Cult Horror Collection
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: The General [Blu-ray] - Blu-ray fits Buster Keaton like a glove in this exceptionally bright and sharp restoration of the 1927 classic. With three separate music track choices and some fine extras on the making of the film and the historical "Great Locomotive Chase"; Tora-San Collector's Set 1 - Japan's number one comedy-drama series is also the longest running film series with the same lead actor: 35 years, 48 movies. Kiyoshi Atsumi is Tora-San, a travelling peddler who causes havoc for his relatives. This first disc release contains the initial four Tora-San films, along with AnimEigo's expected extras and a commentary by Stuart Galbraith IV; and Universal Cult Horror Collection - This latest horror compendium assembles one atmospheric 30's Paramount shocker and four Universal program chillers from the 1940s: Murders in the Zoo, The Mad Doctor of Market Street, The Strange Case of Dr. Rx, The Mad Ghoul, House of Horrors. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
