Talking Out of Frame: A Christmas Tale, Toi & Moi, and The Dead
Talking Out of Frame It's early December and that means it's time for another installment of Talking Out of Frame, DVDTalk's look at Art House films. TV on DVD: Zorro, The Golden Age of Television, and The Mary Tyler Moore Show
Walt Disney Treasures: Zorro - The Complete First Season TV on DVD remains very popular with more and more favorites being released. Recently Announced Discs: Stargate SG-U, The Phantom, and The Final Destination
Stargate SG-U: Season One The studios have announced some great shows and movies coming to DVD and Blu-ray including: Stargate SG-U: Season One on DVD and Blu-ray - The third (!) series inspired by the 1994 Roland Emmerich film comes to home video on 2/9/10; The Phantom [Blu-ray] - The Lee Falk comic strip comes to life in this fun and unduly maligned 1996 film. It arrives on 2/9/10; and The Final Destination on DVD and Blu-ray - The 4th installment of the popular horror series gets a confusing name and is billed as "from the director of Snakes on a Plane". DVD Savant: The General, Tora-San, and The Universal Cult Horror Collection
The General This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: The General [Blu-ray] - Blu-ray fits Buster Keaton like a glove in this exceptionally bright and sharp restoration of the 1927 classic. With three separate music track choices and some fine extras on the making of the film and the historical "Great Locomotive Chase"; Tora-San Collector's Set 1 - Japan's number one comedy-drama series is also the longest running film series with the same lead actor: 35 years, 48 movies. Kiyoshi Atsumi is Tora-San, a travelling peddler who causes havoc for his relatives. This first disc release contains the initial four Tora-San films, along with AnimEigo's expected extras and a commentary by Stuart Galbraith IV; and Universal Cult Horror Collection - This latest horror compendium assembles one atmospheric 30's Paramount shocker and four Universal program chillers from the 1940s: Murders in the Zoo, The Mad Doctor of Market Street, The Strange Case of Dr. Rx, The Mad Ghoul, House of Horrors. This Week's Notable DVDs: Terminator Salvation, MST3K: XVI, and Night at the Museum
Terminator Salvation (Blu-ray) Some noteworthy DVDs are coming out this week including: Terminator Salvation [Blu-ray review]- a film that's filled with both jaw-dropping action and thought provoking, thematically driven concepts; Mystery Science Theater 3000: XVI [DVD review] - this set includes four episodes of the loving but venomous, b-movie riffing series; and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian [review]- fans of the first movie won't be disappointed at this sequel. Other releases of note include:  Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (Blu-ray) [review], Ben 10: Alien Swarm [review], and Better Off Ted: Season One.
