DVD Savant: Trailers from Hell, Mail Order Bride, and Dillinger is Dead
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: The Best of Trailers from Hell Volume 1 - The Trailers from Hell website offers its first DVD collection of genre-oriented coming attractions, each with optional hosting and commentary from the TFH stable of director "Gurus". The extras include a good copy of the entire 1933 horror feature The Vampire Bat; Mail Order Bride - Director Burt Kennedy and producer Richard E. Lyon's superior "civilized" western stars Buddy Ebsen, Kier Dullea and Lois Nettleton. It also bears an extremely close relationship with Sam Peckinpah's breakthrough classic, Ride the High Country; and Dillinger is Dead - Marco Ferreri shows us how a genuinely subversive, politically committed Italian director puts together a filmic treatise on modern man's alienation. Designer and chef Michel Piccoli putters around his posh apartment, playing with a gun that may have belonged to the famous American bandit. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
