This Week's Notable DVDs: The Lord of the Rings, Sharpe's Peril, and Icons of Suspense
With one notable exception it's a bit of a slow week for new DVDs, though there are some new titles that might make it worth a trip to the video store. Check out these recent releases: The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy [Blu-ray] [review] - Peter Jackson's epic trilogy arrives on Blu-ray. Unfortunately only the theatrical versions are being released at this time, but even these slightly shorter versions are worth picking up; Sharpe's Peril [Blu-ray review] - Sean Bean returns to his role as a infantryman and adventurer in the King's Army in this latest installment in the long-running series; and Icons of Suspense: Hammer Films [DVD review] - Reaching further down into its vault of co-productions with England's Hammer Films, Sony collects five mystery thrillers and one science fiction masterpiece in this intriguing collection.
Other releases of note include: Party Down: Season 1 [DVD review], The Italian Straw Hat [DVD review], and Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans [Blu-ray review].
