DVD Savant: Pete Kelly's Blues, Man of the West, and Under Fire
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Pete Kelly's Blues - A Kansas City bandleader's efforts to be free of a gangster (Edmond O'Brien) lead to violence and tragedy -- and lots of terrific music by Ray Heindorf and excellent singing interludes from Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee; Man of the West - The legendary adult western by Anthony Mann stars Gary Cooper as a reformed outlaw who must pretend to rejoin his old gang of depraved cutthroats; and Under Fire - Roger Spottiswoode directs this exciting, tense tale of journalists risking their lives to get the story in 1979 Nicaragua, as the Sandinistas seize power from the corrupt Anastasio Somoza.
Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.
