View Askew's Vulgar (With Dogma Doc)
Lions Gate Entertainment has announced the DVD release of View Askew's notorious Vulgar on September 3rd. Vulgar was produced by Kevin Smith and Directed by Bryan Johnson (a View Askew regular). The Vulgar DVD will be presented in 16x9 enhanced widescreen with Dolby Digital Surround sound and feature production commentary (we're hoping for the usual View Askew group commentary), production stills, and the documentary 'Controversy Behind Dogma' which was cut from the Dogma DVD! Vulgar will be released in an Unrated 87 Min Version and an R-Rated 84 Min Version so make sure you're ordering the right one (our links point to the Unrated version)

The X-Files Season 6
X-Files fans will be happy to hear that Fox Home Video has announced that they will be releasing The X-Files 6: The Complete Sixth Season on DVD November 5th. The X-Files 6: The Complete Sixth Season will contain all 22 episodes from season 6 on 6 DVDs. X-Files 6: will be presented in 1.78:1 widescreen enhanced for 16x9 TVs and Dolby Digital Surround Audio and feature: audio commentaries on some of the episodes, a 'Truth about Season 6' featurette, deleted scenes, 'Behind The Truth' making of segments, and more. Heavenly Creatures - Widescreen
Contrary to early reports, Buena Vista has announced that it's upcoming release of the Peter Jackson thriller Heavenly Creatures, set for release on September 24, will in fact be released in WIDESCREEN, actually a new 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer to be exact along with a remastered Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track. Sadly there aren't any special features on the DVD, but with Peter Jackson on 24/7 Lord of the Rings work it's not surprising that he wasn't available to do a commentary. Columbia Tri-Star has corrected thier announcement the DVD release for Michael Apted's (Director of Enough, World Is Not Enough, 28 UP) Enigma with Dougray Scott and Kate Winslet. Enigma is a film about World War II code breaking and was a hit when it premiered at Sundance. Down By Law - Criterion
Criterion has announced the DVD release for the Jim Jarmusch classic Down By Law. Set for release on October 22, Down By Law will be a 2 DVD Special Edition featuring: a new anamorphic widescreen transfer of the film, audio commentary by Jim Jarmusch, interviews, footage from a press conference and more. Is Superbit Deluxe The Best of Both Worlds?
When Columbia Tri-Star first launched Superbit the concept was simple - get rid of special features to make room for higher quality video and audio. Now it seems like Columbia Tri-Star is trying to have it's cake and eat it too with the announcement of 2 'Superbit Deluxe' titles Snatch: Superbit Deluxe and The Mask of Zorro: Superbit Deluxe. The 'Superbit Deluxe' releases feather 2 DVDs, 1 with the 'Superbit' version of the movie and a 2nd Disc will all the special features found on the previously released SE (minus the audio commentaries). We're all for the best picture and sound posable, but with the announcement of Panic Room debuting as a Superbit first and the addition of 'Superbit Deluxe' line, it's getting awfully confusing which version of Columbia Tri-Star titles people should buy.

Sitting in Limbo: New Films by Abel Ferrara and Tom DiCillo
Cinema Gotham It's no secret that tons of films go undistributed each year. But who would expect films from the directors of Bad Lieutenant and Living in Oblivion to vanish without a trace? This week Cinema Gotham takes a look at the latest from two noted New York filmmakers: Abel Ferrara's 'R-Xmas, which features a fierce, moving performance by The Sopranos' Drea de Matteo (left), and Tom DiCillo's Double Whammy, which stars Denis Leary, Elizabeth Hurley and Steve Buscemi. With both films hidden from the public eye for now, getting the word out to film fans is critical.

24: Season One
If you had any doubts about the success of TV shows on DVD, look no further than Fox's announcement that they'll be releasing 24: Season 1 on September 17th, an unprecedented move for a major network to release a TV show on DVD so close to it's initial network airing. 24: Season 1 will be released as a 6 DVD collectors edition, presented in 16x9 enhanced widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio and feature an alternate ending for Season 1's finale with Audio Commentary by Executive producers Joel Surnow and Cochran on the alternate ending (where a different main character was killed than on the aired version) as well as a sneek peek at 24: Season 2. Jason X: Platinum Series Edition
New Line has announced the DVD release for the latest chapter in the 'Friday the 13th' series: Jason X: Platinum Series Edition. Set for release on October 8 Jason X will be presented in 16x9 enhanced widescreen with both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 and feature: Commentary with Director Jim Isaac, Writer Todd Farmer and Producer Noel Cunningham, two 'Jason' documentaries 'The Many Lives of Jason Voorhees' and 'The Making of Jason X', and a 'Jump to a Death' feature. Also October 8 will be Jason Goes To Hell which will feature both full and wide screen versions of the rated and unrated version of the film, audio commentary with Director Adam Marcus and screenwriter Dean Lorey, and the same 'Jump to a Death' feature that will be on Jason X.

Russ Meyer Films Debut on DVD
Good and bad news for Russ Meyer fans. The Good news is that 3 classic Russ Meyer films are making their way on to DVD on July 23rd including: Russ Meyer's Cherry, Harry & Raquel, Russ Meyer's Mondo Topless, Russ Meyer's Up (co-written by Roger Ebert). The bad news is that these 3 DVDs will be 'bare bones' with only the feature and are priced around $30 each (ouch). But Russ Meyer fans should be psyched to see his films make their way on to DVD.
