The Pianist
Universal Studios Home Video has announced the DVD release for the surprise Oscar winner The Pianist which won Oscars both for Best Actor (Adrien Brody) and Best Director (Roman Polanski). The Pianist is set for release on May 27th and will be available in separate Widescreen and Full Frame versions with Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 audio and feature: "Story of Survival" - a featurette on the making of the film, and Archival war footage.

DVD Talk Interview Andrew Gurland - Director of Cheats
DVDTalk writer Phillip Duncan recently had a chance to chat with writer / director Andrew Gurland about the upcoming DVD release of his feature Directorial debut Cheats. Gurland’s first achieved notoriety with his co-direction on the documentary Frat House which was never ultimately released (due to legal wranglings). Rather than take this as a defeat, Gurland realized that he had dealt with controversy all his life, starting in high school with a group of friends. They had essentially cheated their way through high school and when eventually caught. With that in mind, Gurland set about writing his first script which became the high school comedy / drama that Gurland himself likened to Goodfellas in high school. Adaptation Superbit
Columbia Tri-Star has officially announced the DVD release for Adaptation (Superbit). Set for release on May 20th Adaptation (Superbit) will be presented in Anamorphic Widescreen with both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 audio. As with the other Superbits Adaptation (Superbit) does not feature any special features aside from the film's trailer. We're hoping to see a Special Edition of Adaptation in the future, but nothing has been confirmed. (We're STILL waiting for an SE of Panic Room as well!) The Animatrix

This Week's Notable DVDs
Several solid DVDs released this week, many of them would easily be overlooked. Short lived at the box office Below [Review] brings together Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream) and David Twohy (Pitch Black) in an enjoyable submarine thriller. Michelle Pfeiffer is good but Allison Lohman is even better in the "and you thought your life was hard" film - White Oleander [Review] a dark and complex movie that shouldn't be written off because it's based on an Oprah Book Club Book. Another dark and brooding film filled with great performances is Moonlight Mile [Review] which takes a unique approach at grief and does it oh so well. To lighten the week Lion's Gate has Sol Goode [Review] which somehow manages to leap over many of the genre's pitfalls. Finally this week we recommend you resist the temptation to sneak a peek at the train wreck of a movie I Spy [Review] - it really is that bad.

Barton Fink & Miller's Crossing

Dreamworks has announced the DVD release for Steven Spielberg's. Set for release on May 6th Catch Me If You Can will be released in both Widescreen and a Full Screen Editions, both with Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS audio, featuring: 'Behind The Camera' - A Journey from book to Screen, 'Cast Me If You Can', 'Scoring Catch Me If You Can', 'Frank Abagnale: Between Reality and Fiction', The FBI Perspective and more.
