DVD Savant: Eyes Without A Face and The Wackiest Ship in the Army
This week, The DVD Savant has reviews of Graveyard of Honor - Kinji Fukasaku's ragged Yakuza biography is hailed as a genre highlight, but its charm escaped Savant entirely, The Wackiest Ship in the Army - Jack Lemmon teams with Ricky Nelson for an acceptably bland war comedy with some good sailing scenes, Hardcore - Paul Schrader's provocative The Searchers remake will be ugly, outrageous, tame, debatable or simplistic depending on one's POV and Eyes Without a Face -the first Georges Franju film to hit DVD is a horror masterpiece in a category of its own, so great that ... you know, Savant could fill the entire newsletter with subjective superlatives for this one. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

Getting Saved! - A DVD Talk Interview with Writer/Director Brian Dannelly
It's never easy for a filmmaker to tackle a subject like religion. No matter what point of view taken, controversy will be soon to follow. Of course, if the movie is well-made, controversy only helps. Saved!, the first feature film from writer/director Brian Dannelly, is that kind of movie. A teen-movie take on faith, belief and human nature, starring a young, talented ensemble cast, connected with many people, and should reach an even wider audience now that it's being released on a feature-packed DVD. DVD Talk writer Francis Rizzo III sat down with Dannelly to chat about Saved!, DVDs and the importance of an exclamation point! Read the complete interview.
