DVD Talk Radio: Paris Texas, Sundance Wrap Up and Duane Chapman

DVD Savant: The Martin Scorsese Film Collection
This week the DVD Savant has a batch of new reviews including: Night and the City - Jules Dassin's most delirious film noir gets the royal Criterion treatment complete with commentary from The DVD Savant, The Martin Scorsese Film Collection - MGM clusters older discs of Boxcar Bertha and The Last Waltz with new Special Eds of New York, New York and Raging Bull, The Cyclist - an artsy but effective Iranian film about an afghan refugee forced to make himself into a sideshow to get hospital money for his sick wife, The Wedding Party - Brian De Palma's not-too-impressive early film stars Jill Clayburgh and has Robert De Niro in a supporting role and Legong: Dance of the Virgins Milestone surprises us again with a worthy rarity - a Two-Color Technicolor silent travelogue-documentary shot in Bali in 1934 with an all non-pro cast. CineSchlock-O-Rama: Predator 2
Ol' snaggle puss is back -- bigtime! CineSchlockers will be dizzied by the new two-disc Predator 2 special edition which claws past its previous bare-bones release to DVD Talk's highest rating! While the much-anticipated AVP: Alien vs. Predator ultimately proves underwhelming by woefully neglecting its bloodlust (even on DVD). Plus, responses to reader emails and the ever-vigilant CineSchlock-O-Rama's Most Wanted.

The Grudge - An Interview with Sam Raimi and Rob Tappert
DVD Talk writer Bill Gibron sat with Sam Raimi and Rob Tappert to talk about The Grudge - the debut from their new venture Ghost House Pictures. The Grudge stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and is a re-make Directed by Takashi Shimizu who also directed the original Japanese horror film Ju-On: The Grudge. Bill Gibron spoke to Sam Raimi and Rob Tappert about the DVD release of The Grudge as well as the overall state of horror in modern cinema. Friendly to a fault and eager to discuss just about anything, Sam and Rob prove that the independent spirit still lives, even in a couple of seasoned old pros. Read the complete interview.

2005 Sundance Film Festival Report - 23 Movies Reviewed
DVD Talk Editor Geoffrey Kleinman is back from five very full days in Park City Utah at the Sundance and Slamdance film festivals. Geoff took the fest a break neck pace watching up to six films a day in order to bring you the most complete report of the films at the fests. This Week's Notable DVDs - Ray, The Grudge and TV on DVD
It's great to see the turn around on successful theatrical films get even faster. This week's most notable DVD Ray [Review] is a perfect example of a great film quickly released on DVD. Other notable DVDs this week include: Shall We Dance? [Review] - a light romantic film with Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez and Susan Saradon, Shall We Dance? - The Original Japanese Version - with less star power but a lot more charm than the remake, The Grudge [Review] - Sarah Michelle Gellar fans will be happy but fans of good horror might want watch Takashi Shimizu's Japanese version Ju-on - The Grudge [Review] instead and Mulan II [Review] - an enjoyable film for a younger audience, it captures a lot of the magic of the original and is worth checking out. Also out this week are a number of notable TV on DVD releases including: Wonderfalls: Complete Series [Review, Charmed: S1 [Review], Cheers: S4 [Review], Frasier: S4 [Review], I Love Lucy: S3 [Review], Oz: S4, Sealab 2021: Season 2 and Taxi - S2.
