DVD Savant: The Man Who Fell To Earth, Carlito's Way and Xtro
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: The Man Who Fell To Earth - Criterion gives the deluxe treatment to Nicolas Roeg's tripped-out saga of alien David Bowie's unfortunate mission to Earth; Carlito's Way - Al Pacino's trying to go straight in the nightclub trade, but his own lawyer (a great perf by Sean Penn) has become a coke-addicted crazoid; Xtro - Cashing in on both Alien and E.T., this English gross-a-thon is about another fatherless boy. But the missing dad doesn't phone home, he comes back as a shape-shifting, egg-laying, female-cocooning menace; Monster of Venice - A murderous Venetian scuba diver is also a demented embalming maniac, ruining the love life of a dapper reporter to add more corpses to his underground showroom. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

This Week's Notable DVDs - The Fly, Cinderella and The Interpreter
A great week for notable DVDs including: The Fly: SE [Review - Podcast] - David Cronenberg's most popular film is as creepy and wonderful as ever; Cinderella: SE [Review] - one of the crown jewels of the Disney library looks and sounds amazing on DVD; The Interpreter [Review] - Sydney Pollack delivers another compelling and entertaining thriller; Mail Order Wife - a sharp and painfully realistic satire that is definitely worth seeking out; The Warriors: Ultimate Cut [Review] - Walter Hill's urban Western is an absolute delight but the DVD is inexcusably missing the theatrical cut; Other notable DVDs out this week include: Alfred Hitchcock: Masterpiece Collection, The Amityville Horror [Review], The Fly 2 [Review], Man With the Screaming Brain [Review] and Star Trek - Nemesis CE [Review]. Clip of The Week: Count Duckula

Count Duckula a once villainous vampire is brought back to life after a near fatal stake to the heart with a transfusion of ketchup...not blood. Now a vegetarian with mild manners, Duckula spends his time pursuing fame and money. Be sure to check out the clip from Count Duckula (more info on the DVD release here). Other clips this week include: a peek at Kicking and Screaming and several videos from The Very Best of Elvis Costello - Veronica, High Fidelity and Radio Radio. DVD Talk Interview: Ilene Woods - The Voice of Cinderella
"A dream is a wish your heart makes." For Ilene Woods her wishes and dreams literally turned into a Cinderella story. As a favor to a friend Ilene Woods harmonized "Sing Sweet Nightingale" and "So This Is Love" in a small studio. Little did she know this small favor would turn into a casting call from Mr. Disney and the role of a lifetime: Cinderella. DVD Talk Writer Danielle Henbest caught up with Ilene Woods and talked to her about the impact of Cinderella on her life, seeing the film again after all these years and her favorite moments in the film. New DVD Reviews: Batman Begins, Saw Uncut and Unleashed
Now with over 13,300 DVD reviews in the DVD Talk Review Database, it's easy to overlook some of the great reviews. Recent DVD Reviews include: Batman Begins - Deluxe Edition - the latest piece in the renaissance of comic-book movies, and it may in fact be the best of the bunch; Saw - Uncut Edition - a treat for Sawthusiasts with improved audio/video presentation, a few extra pieces of gooey gore gristle, a pair of all-new commentaries, and a handful of extra featurettes; Nordkraft (R2) - a stand out Scandinavian film that is worth seeking out; Unleashed - Unrated - a very well done action/drama, Jet Li gives one of the best performances of his career in a role that lets him emote far more than we're used to seeing from him; The Girl in The Cafe - a winning, low-key romcom with stand out performances by the wildly underrated Bill Nighy and Kelly Macdonald. Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
