DVD Savant: The Wages of Fear, Orchestra Wives and Detective Story
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: The Wages of Fear - Criterion re-ships one of the most explosive cinematic cargos ever filmed; Orchestra Wives - A great Swing-Era fairy tale with some interesting lessons about women's place in the 1940s; Detective Story - William Wyler transforms a hit play into a movie ; Guerrilla: The Taking of Patty Hearst - A great docu revisitation of the reign of terror of the Symbionese Liberation Army and their kidnapping of an heiress; Teorema - Savant likes Pasolini movies so doesn't know whether to tell readers to skip this movie or simply skip my review; Darling Lili - Blake Edwards' romantic musical comedy drama was a debacle that almost ended careers; Dracula A.D. 1972 - Hammer's least inspired Dracula picture at least has Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing going for it; Demon Seed - Julie Christie has the unenviable role of a woman imprisoned and raped by a super-computer with the voice of Robert Vaughn. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

New HD Scaling & Region Free DVD Player Reviewed
The search for a high quality region-free DVD player has often been frustrating for movie fans with a taste for discs released outside the United States. Although there are a great many affordable region-free options available to those interested, traditionally the quality of region-free DVD players has been inferior to dedicated Region 1 units. The category of reasonably priced (under $250) region-free DVD players got a shot in the arm with the Oppo OPDV971H which despite a few quirks delivered high-end performance and is equipped with many useful features. Now DVD Talk Writer Joshua Zyber has a look at another notable entry, the NeuNeo HVD2085 which has the unique ability to play the first entry into the High Def disc space from China - HVD (High-Clearness Video Disc). Read our complete review of the NeuNeo HVD2085 now.

DVD Talk Interview: Angela Robinson - Herbie: Fully Loaded
Herbie: Fully Loaded comes on the crest of the wave of '70's films and TV programs getting big budgeted and star packed remakes. With the added buzz around 'it girl' and star Lindsay Lohan, director Angela Robinson had a much fuller plate for her sophomore outing than she did with her indie spy spoof D.E.B.S.. DVD Talk Writer Danielle Henbest caught up with Angela Robinson to talk about the DVD release for Herbie: Fully Loaded. Read the complete interview with Angela Robinson.

New DVD Reviews: Aliens of The Deep, Ken Burns: American Lives and Plaga Zombie
Now with over 13,600 DVD reviews in the DVD Talk Review Database, it's easy to overlook some of the great reviews. Recent DVD Reviews include: Aliens of The Deep - James Cameron returns to the deep sea and brings back even more spectacular visuals; Ken Burns: American Lives - an amazing set, Ken Burns has a knack for bringing history alive and making it interesting while still being educational; Plaga Zombie: Mutant Zone - a frantic, hypercaffeinated, endlessly gory comedy, as if all of the funniest, bloodiest parts of Evil Dead II and Dead Alive had been chopped up and strewn across one after another for an hour and a half; La Dolce Vita: Deluxe Collector's Edition - hardly another film in the history of Italian cinema that is as influential and as highly regarded; Kids in the Hall - Complete Season 3 - perhaps the funniest season in the history of the entire series. Visit the DVD Talk Review Database for all the latest reviews including an entire section devoted to reviews of DVDs out this week.
