DVD Savant: La Bête Humaine, Week-End in Havana and The Virgin Spring
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews including: La bête humaine - another Renoir rarity debuts on DVD in a dazzlingly perfect presentation; Week-End in Havana - Fox's Technicolor musicals are finally here amd it's great stuff, beautifully transferred; Earth vs. The Spider & War of the Colossal Beast - Terminal cheapness blights this double bill of agreeable monster madness from the 1950s; The Virgin Spring - Ingmar Bergman made a big international impression with this near-perfect tale of bloody murder and revenge; They Shoot Movies, Don't They? - a quirky and sneaky mockumentary that transcends 'reality filmmaking' by having something to say; Asylum - Natasha Richardson and Ian McKellen star in this lavishly produced but psychologically unconvincing tale. Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

New DVD Reviews: Saw II, Twilight Zone 5 and Action
Now with over 14,700 DVD reviews in the DVD Talk Review Database, it's easy to overlook some of the great reviews. Recent DVD Reviews include: Saw II - a solidly recommended sequel to those who adored the first entry or anyone else just looking for a cold blast of unfiltered horror nastiness; Nine Lives - a sprawling and inventive film that's worth seeking out; Vital - surreal and offbeat with a solid performance from Tadanobu Asano on a great DVD; Marjoe / Thoth - proof that when done right, the documentary format can be the most powerful type of cinematic statement a filmmaker can create ; The Twilight Zone - Season 5 (The Definitive Edition) - a step up in episodic quality from the fourth season with staggering amount of additional features that rivals even the spectacular first season release; Action: The Complete Series - acidic, acerbic, trenchant, and amazingly ballsy for a prime-time network series.
