New Movie Reviews: Grindhouse, Reaping, and Hoax
Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's homage to their favorite grindhouse memories finally hits theaters as Grindhouse. The highly-anticipated double-bill showcases Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror and Tarantino's Death Proof in a back-to-back grindfest (with all the grindhouse trappings included: campy trailers, missing reels, etc). Grindhouse opens wide this weekend. Also in theaters this week is The Reaping - Hilary Swank proves that she obviously already has enough Academy Awards by starring in this silly Biblical plagues film; The Hoax - Lasse Hallström's latest stars Richard Gere selling his "biography" of Howard Hughes in the early '70s; and Are We Done Yet? - if Are We There Yet? wasn't bad enough, now we have this latest offering (what's happened to Ice Cube???). Be sure to catch reviews of other recent Theatrical Films: Firehouse Dog, Black Book, Blades of Glory, The Lookout, Meet the Robinsons, First Snow, Live Free or Die, Highlander: The Source, Reign Over Me, Pride, TMNT, Shooter, The Hills Have Eyes 2, The Last Mimzy, Boy Culture, Air Guitar Nation, Dead Silence. As always, we invite you to share your thoughts on films in theaters in our Movie Talk Forum Area.

TV on DVD Reviews: Twin Peaks S1, Addams Family Vol 2 and Run's House
A number of notable TV on DVD releases reviewed recently including: Twin Peaks - The Second Season - the long awaited release of the second and final season of this all to brief series which was an avant-garde flashpoint in episodic television; The Addams Family - Volume 2 - the show has aged like a fine wine and the elements that made it a brave broadcast move in 1964 will modify and magnify your affection, rendering it into a full-blown obsession; Run's House - The Complete Seasons 1 & 2 - an enjoyable reality TV series suitable for the whole family; Garfield and Friends - An Ode to Odie - surprisingly clever, and smartly executed, and the kids will love Garfield's snotty demeanor and Odie's obsessive need to be stupid; Wallis & Edward - it manages to entertain with two engaging lead performances, a nicely constructed script, and a smooth, assured production. This Week's Notable DVDs: The Good Shepherd, Volver, Charlotte's Web
A solid week for notable DVDs including: Good Shepherd [Review] - a film that deglamorizes espionage and shows it for what it really is, an often tedious and plodding game where information is deadlier than bullets; Volver [Review] - Pedro Almodovar and Penelope Cruz are at the top of their game in this luminous comedy-drama about not so ordinary family problems; Charlotte's Web [Review] - E.B. White's classic children's book gets a modern makeover and it's still as magical as ever. The Lost Room [Review]- Peter Krause is excellent in one of the better mini-series in recent years.
