DVD Talk Interview: Ben Model
Over the last couple of years Undercrank Productions has released some excellent and exceedingly rare silent movies on DVD. DVD Talk's John Sinnott recently had a chance to talk with Ben Model is the driving force behind Undercrank who not only produces the discs, but also scores and provides musical accompaniment to the films. He talks about how some of these movies came to be preserved outside of film archives, the difference between scoring shorts and features, and what we can expect to see from Undercrank in the future. Read all this and more in this exclusive interview.
More TV shows have made their way on to DVD and Blu-ray, and DVD Talk has got them covered. Check out our reviews of the newest TV releases including:
Fireball XL5: The Complete Series - this show still charms thanks to its simple-yet-nicely designed production and that velvety, strangely ethereal black and white world it creates; Science Fiction Theatre: The Complete Series - the first time all 78 episodes have been made available on DVD... this largely forgotten 50's SF show features real science along with high-tech gadgetry and concepts; and Parenthood: The Complete Series - a reliably well-written show with solid performances, strong chemistry between cast members, and the good sense to treat most of its serious issues in a mature, reasoned manner.
Other shows recently reviewed include: Mom's Day Away, Kung Fu: The Legend Continues: The Complete Second Season, and Z Nation: The Complete First Season.

DVD Savant: Jamaica Inn, Thank Your Lucky Stars, and Hombre
This week the DVD Savant has a number of new reviews and articles including: Jamaica Inn - a pristine copy of a vintage Hitchcock film about a gang of swarthy Cornwall pirates that wreck cargo ships and murder their crews for profit; Thank Your Lucky Stars - Warner's first all-star wartime ode to the troops is a comedy variety spectacular that gathers every name actor on the payroll; and Hombre - Martin Ritt directs and Paul Newman stars in an impressive adaptation of a book by Elmore Leonard, a western tale that seems a political update of Stagecoach.
Read all this and more in this week's DVD Savant.

Other reviews of note include: American Sniper [review], Cymbeline [review], and Flawless [review].
