Home Fries
It's always an interesting experience going to watch a movie that you think is about one thing, and it totally turns out to be something completely different. Home Fries is that kind of movie. The trailer painted it as a sweet love story between an odd Luke Wilson and a very pregnant Drew Barrymore. This movie is anything but sweet. Home Fries is a quirky dark comedy that is strange enough you could believe it was made by the folks who did Twin Peaks. Dorian (Luke Wilson) and his brother kill their step father by scaring him with their helicopter but Sally (Drew Barrymore) who carrying the illegitimate son of their step father hears them on her headset at the local Burger-Matic. Sound confusing? It is. The film takes strange twists and turns, some of which are genuinely entertaining, others which are just strange. Wilson and Barrymore are the two saving graces of this film, both give fun quirky performances. It's too bad that the film wasn't more like the trailer, it could have been a really nice film.
The Picture:
Descent transfer, presented in 1.85:1 and very watchable.
The Sound:
Good sound transfer (Dolby 5.1), but not stellar. There are a few helicopter scenes where the sound is pretty flat, but overall it does the job.
The Extras:
You know when the first item on the extra list is "Interactive Menus" you're in trouble, not that every film needs extras, it's nice to have them.
