Waiting For Woody: a wonderful homage to the work and style of Woody Allen, this short film follows an out work actor as he tries to get his big break (and an erection). The results are fun to watch and the film has several cameos from actors like Jennifer Aniston and George Clooney. If you are a Woody Allen fan you'll get a real kick out of this short film.

Pact: A very sick and twisted short film about what happens when two lovers decided to take their own lives in a love pact and things don't go quite a planned. Very sick and very funny.

Blind Date: This film reminded me of some of the "Bean" segments where everything that can go wrong will go wrong. Enjoyable, but probably the weakest film on the DVD.

Big Canyon: By far the best movie on the DVD, Big Canyon is a great short film that delivers more in fifteen minutes than many films do in an hour and a half. Extremely well developed characters and a fantastic rhythm make Big Canyon a film you'll watch several times. There is no doubt that we will be seeing director David Agosto doing big screen feature work soon.

Bill v. The City: Another enjoyable and very short film, running only two minutes you'd wonder how a complete story could be told in such a short amount of time. Bill v. The City plays like a great personal essay and captures the mood of the main character perfectly.

Stalker Guilt Syndrome: A hilarious look at New York phenomenon, Stalker Guilt Syndrome is laugh out loud funny and it follows a guy and a girl waking on the same street in the same direction... There shouldn't be anything wrong with that, but throw in a neurotic New Yorker and you've got a load of fun.

Although the picture quality varies from film to film, the overall transfer of Definitely Not Hollywood: Dark Comedy Edition is really good, of special note is the crystal clear and brightly colored transfer for Big Canyon. On the sound side I'm giving this collection medium marks but with the understanding that many of these films are produced on lower budgets and so a Dolby Digital transfer may not have made sense.

The one area that really needed improvement on this DVD is the real absence of extras. There are some truly great films on the DVD from up and coming film makers, I would have really liked to hear their commentaries or at the least had brief interview footage of them discussing their films.

In all Definitely Not Hollywood: Dark Comedy Edition is a real treat. If you are a fan of independent films or want to try out a DVD of short films, this is a great one to start with. I'm sure we'll be seeing more DVD's like this from Atom Films in the near future!
