Transformers Energon - The Return of Megatron
Body of Review: The second volume of the newest Transformer show, Transformers Energon, has a lot of action and excitement. Things really start heating up when the lead Decepticon, Megatron, is revived.
Parmount's handling of the Energon series leave a little to be desired. In the first volume the edit out a couple of scenes, and with this volume they skip an episode. Instead of starting this volume with episode 5, New Cybertron City, the DVD begins with the sixth program. Granted, Megatron Resurrected is a great show to start the disc out with, but they could have put 5 shows on the DVD, especially since they are only about 22 minutes long.
As for the quality of this set of shows, I enjoyed this DVD more than the first one (reviewed here.) The plot starts rolling along at a quicker pace when Megatron comes back to life, and the return of Starscream was a welcome sight. Some fun shows on this DVD.

| Extras: There were no extras on this disc. Video: The full frame video looked pretty good for the most part. The colors were bright and vivid, and the lines were tight. There was a fair amount of aliasing however, and fine lines had a tendency to shimmer. Other than that, the disc looked about average. Audio: The stereo surround soundtrack sounds like a typical TV show. There isn't a lot of bass. The battle scenes had a lot of flashy sound effects but they didn't have a lot of impact. Some use was made of the soundstage, though not as much as they could have. There wasn't any hiss or audio defects and the audio is otherwise solid. Final Thoughts: This series is starting to grow on me slowly. Though I still don't think it is one of the best Transformer series, it is getting better as it goes on. My two sons thought it was great, and I'm sure other young boys will to. Though I wish that Paramount hadn't felt the need to skip an episode, this is still worth checking out. Die hard Transformer fans should pick up a copy, but others can settle for a rental. |
