Carmen Electra's Fit to Strip

The Movie:

Following hot on the heels of Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease comes the second video in her new strip-a-dee-doo-dah work out series, Carmen Electra's Fit To Strip. Where in the first entry Carman was joined by a pair of buxom cuties, here she's joined by her own personal trainer, Michael Carson. Mr. Carson is about as far removed from a buxom cutie as one can get, but he's in better shape than I am and he's bouncing around with Carmen Electra while I sit here and polish my perfectly spherical beer gut, so I should just shut up now. But I'm not going to. While sadly, once again, Carmen is clothed the entire time, though on the other side of the spectrum, thankfully Mr. Carson is as well.

Once again, after a little introduction by the lovely miss Electra in which she gives a brief rundown of the exercises you're going to be doing in this program, the DVD plays out into the separate routines - there are five of them this time out. Each one of these routines has an introduction section, in which Carmen explains the whys and hows of the various moves she's going to demonstrate, and then a follow through section in which you follow along with the Carmen and Michael on screen and work up a little bit of a sweat. Here's how it all plays out:

Routine One: This first segment is a cardio warm up routine. It's the usual assortment of stretching and warm up exercises to get you limbered up for the sexy aerobics to follow. Pretty standard stuff, but a must for anyone taking their exercise seriously.

Routine Two: Routine number two is called floor work, and it basically gets you down on the ground, rolling around with your legs in oddly intriguing positions and lets you stretch and work your thighs and calves

Routine Three: The third routine isolates those muscles in your lower body and gets you shaking your rump in a stripper-esque fashion. Though Carmen doesn't specifically state that you should try and make it clap, I personally think that you should at least give that move a shot, as it always gets me to tip at least a dollar when I'm sitting stage side. I figure it takes some real skill to shake your booty like that. At any rate, this here third segment works your lower body and does a pretty decent job of getting the blood flowing and the muscles aching.

Routine Four: This fourth segment isolates your abdominal muscles by having you do some pelvic movements to the rhythmic soundtrack of your choice. By turning your torso in tune with the tunes, you'll stretch in a provocative manner and do some good to your tummy at the same time.

Routine Five: This fifth and final segment isolates your upper body muscles and has you work your arms and shoulders. It's rather pedestrian but again, it does the trick by having you utilize various stretching and toning techniques, again, set to the music.

The emphasis on this disc is more on aerobics and less on stripping, which you can't really say about the first entry in the series. The exercises are better and allow for the targeting of your problem areas, and all in all you're likely to get a much better work out, even if you don't get any nudie kicks in the process.

The DVD

Video:

This straight to video release was shot fullframe and that's just how it is presented on this DVD. Colors look good, they're quite distinct and don't bleed into each other at all and black levels, while hardly dominant throughout the video, remain pretty stable and don't break up at all. There are some mild compression artifacts present pretty much from start to finish though, and some edge enhancement as well. While it's not as a big a deal on a fitness video as it is on an actual movie it is still a tiny bit annoying to see it there. Overall though, the picture isn't too bad on this release. If this sounds identical to my description of the video for the first disc in the series, it is, and that's because they look pretty much exactly the same.

Sound:

The English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo mix sounds just fine without any trace of hiss or distortion. While the background music is corny (you have your choice of hip hop, techno, or rock), it does come through clean and clear without any problems. There's not much in the way of channel separation or fancy audio effects but the mix does get the job done. Optional English closed captioning is also included, but there are no subtitles available. Again, the quality here is identical to the first disc.

Extras:

Once again we're treated to goofy animated menus in which Ms. Electra appears with some bizarre colors in her hair that make her look like a member of Jem and the Holograms. The same two still galleries of Carmen vamping it up in work out mode that were on the first video are also here again. The only real new extra not on the first disc is a short interview with personal trainer Michael Carson who gives you all the information you could possibly want on why and how he developed these exercises crammed into a still too long one and a half minute running time.

Final Thoughts:

Carmen Electra's Fit To Strip is a definite improvement over the first video. The emphasis here is on exercise rather than on trying to look hot while working out – something few people can actually pull off (let's face it, sweaty armpits just are not sexy). Better customization for your own personal needs and some decent work outs give this one a marginal recommendation. The low MSRP doesn't hurt things either. It's still a shame that Carmen keeps her clothes on the entire time though…
