Body Armor
Simitar // R // May 5, 1998
List Price: $14.95 [Buy now and save at Amazon]
A year or so ago, some friends of mine and I rented a few videos, and on one of them was the trailer for "Body Armor". It looked hilariously bad, starring Nightman's Matt McColm. I tried to find a copy to rent, but that thought eventually went to the wayside. When I got my DVD player and tried looking for inexpensive titles to add to my collection, I picked up "Body Armor" for a couple of bucks. I'm glad I didn't spend any more than that because "Body Armor" is really bad...and not the entertaining sort of 'bad'. Jeff Conway is an agent (it's never really made clear what he is exactly...corporate saboteur? Assassin? Body guard?) who finds himself attempting to save the world from a deadly virus harvested by a madman. Clint Howard turns in a pretty entertaining performance, but I can't find anything else positive to say about it.
Video: This is the sort of video quality most often equated with Simitar -- poorly compressed and hardly better than VHS. It is full-frame as well, but "Body Armor" screams direct-to-video, so this comes as no surprise.
Audio: Unquestionably, this is the worst presentation of audio on any DVD I've seen. It drops out continually, and there's a tremendous amount of hiss (which appears and disappears throughout).
Extras: The only extras are some uninteresting "movie factoids".
Conclusion: Don't bother. Aside from curious Nightman fans, the only reason I can think of why someone might want this disc is if they made the film or happens to be related to someone who did.
