The Movie:

"Playboy's Queen of Clubs" focuses on a competition between dancers from various cities (Atlanta, Chicago and elsewhere) for the title of "Queen of Clubs". 11 judges from different fields - adult film, radio, hip-hop - judge the moves of each of the girls, who try to pull out all the stops in order to win the crown. They are judged after every round, rather like a "Stripper Idol."

The contenders from Atlanta are Suga and Starr (somehow I don't think those are their real names), a pair of busty African-American women who both put on an athletic show (and, amusingly, riff on sex throughout the whole time of getting prepared), but it's Suga who goes the extra mile by an impressive intro of pole dancing and by demonstrating her flexibility. The two go through various rounds, including a lap dancing demo.

The next group includes XTC, a fresh-faced and curvy Latina; Jazmyne, an attractive African-American woman who talks in great detail about her sexual desires and finally, Candance, a buxom African-American woman who looks on the younger side. XTC starts off the show and while she has the looks, her performance is uneven, with a little too much "walking around" time between moves, some of which were great. Candance is also a highlight throughout her performances as, despite the fact that her moves aren't exactly inventive, she's smooth and seductive with her performance. Jazmyne, despite starting off in a weird-looking outfit, puts on a very high energy, fast-paced show, with good choreography and a very practiced, professional performance that mixed pole dancing, dancing and working herself around on the floor.

Finally, we're....well, back to Atlanta (nothing wrong with Atlanta, but what about mixing it up a bit?) to see Delicious, Mercedes Benz (she's a car) and Eclipse. Delicious doesn't start things off well, with a routine that's pretty routine, doing some fairly generic moves throughout her performances. Mercedes Benz doesn't do vastly better, but at least she has better energy and tries to get the crowd going. Eclipse steals the show, however, keeping the heat while offering up inspired moves and showing off some rather remarkable athleticism.

The DVD

VIDEO: 1.33:1 full-frame. The image quality was adequate, with some artifacts showing in several scenes and inconsistent detail. Some scenes approached looking crisp, but there were others throughout that appeared murky.

SOUND: Stereo audio. The hip-hop tunes the girls were dancing to were delivered well, sounding bassy and dynamic. Some of the judges comments were a bit muffled due to the sounds of the club going on around them, but otherwise, audio was fine.

EXTRAS: Photo gallery, web link and trailers for other Playboy titles, such as "Girls of McDonalds" (what, no "Girls of Arbys"?)

Final Thoughts: While "Queen of Clubs" had a couple of average performers, the majority provided a good show. The DVD is a decent offering, with satisfactory audio/video and a couple of minor supplements. Recommended.
