Mickey's Magical Chritsmas

Don't be fooled by the description telling you that you can spend time with Mickey and all of the Disney super-stars or you'll be disappointed. Mickey's Magical Christmas in nothing more than a repackaging of old Disney cartoons into a new package. There is noting wrong with that, it's done all the time, but the package could have offered a little more explanation.
It's standard Disney fare as Christmas is here and all the Disney characters have gathered for a Christmas party. Of course, Donald Duck in the grouch (or Scrooge) of the party and it falls upon Mickey and the crew to cheer him up. How do they decide to do this? They use home movies of course. That's just what can cheer anyone up, watching the same old footage over and over again.
Truthfully, there are several good cartoons in the package and I would have been less upset if I had known what I was actually getting. I assumed that it was a new cartoon and not the old ones repackaged with new footage cut around them. All complaining aside, it's a nice collection of Christmas themed 'toons in a deceiving package. Included are several of the short (3 minute) Disney cartoons with a Christmas theme. The best of the bunch is easily the episode where Chip and Dale the chipmunks hide out in Mickey's Christmas tree. The real reason that anyone might want to pick this up is it contains the only copy of Mickey's Christmas Carol on DVD.
This retelling of the classic Christmas story of Scrooge is well done and shows off quite a few of the main Disney characters. The contents of the disc are listed as Full-Length Holiday Movie and Premiere Episode of the House of Mouse, so in a sense, it's sad that someone might pass up the true good cartoons on this package.
The DVD
The Video: Nothing spectacular here, but nothing wrong either. It's a standard full-frame presentation of the older material and the only thing that might be altered is the presentation of Mickey's Christmas Carol – since it was a theatrical release originally. The quality varies depending on the age of the original, but again the experience isn't ruined.
The Sound: The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS and sounds quite good. The mastering is at a constant level from the old and new clips and the "you knew it had to happen song at the end" fills the speakers quite well.
The Extras: Nothing really worth mentioning here. There are two sing-a-long songs and that is it, nothing that could really be considered extra.
Overall: It's a nice compilation, but I had a bad taste left in my mouth by the inference that it was a new cartoon. I would have been less disappointed if I knew what to expect in the beginning. I like the old cartoons, but felt ripped off when I was expecting something else.
