I've always been a fan of dumb action movies. After reading the description of the movie on the back of the case for "Bridge of Dragons" and seeing a picture of a less-than-happy Dolph Lundgren on the cover, I thought I'd be in for 90 minutes-or-so of pure entertainment. In this movie, a tough-as-nails princess leaves the tyrannical general who she is to wed after realizing what a monster he truly is. The general dispatches Dolph, a trained assassin, to retrieve her, but Dolph ends up falling for her and fighting alongside her. Sounds like a great setup, right? I was bored to death. I had to watch the movie twice because my friends and I all fell asleep watching it. That's not exactly a good sign, especially for an action movie.
Video: Though full-frame, the video is stunningly clear. There is some occassional dust seen, along with some odd artifacts (such as a purple vertical line that appears once or twice), but for the most part, "Bridge of Dragons" looks great visually.
Audio: In my opinion, audio is well done when it draws me into the movie. However, watching "Bridge of Dragons", all I could think about was how confined the soundscape seemed to be. There was plenty of bass to go along with the myriad of explosions and characters beating the heck out of each other, which ought to satisfy most. On a side note, this movie has some of the most hilariously bizarre sound effects, especially when characters look from side to side or are thinking.
Extras: Chapter stops are about it.
Conclusion: "Bridge of Dragons" is the type of action movie that comes on HBO at 1:30 AM. It has an entertainingly cheesy opening and a somewhat satisfying ending, but everything in between is mindnumbingly boring. I don't think it's necessarily a bad movie, but I wouldn't bother with it unless you're a Dolph completist.
