Deathstalker II: SE
Short Takes
More spoof than sequel, this sword and slapstick epic rejoins the adventures of Deathstalker (John Terlesky) who's eased up considerably on his fitness regime and lost his Clairol connection. ANOTHER evil sorcerer (John Lazar) has hijacked the kingdom. But this time its nubile princess (Monique Gabrielle in a riveting duel role) has been CLONED and sent packing while her man-eater double slinks around the palace and takes all her meals in bed. Being the resident hero, it's up to Deathstalker to sort all this out, that is when he isn't being pile-driven by wrestler Queen Kong. CineSchlockers who enjoy that ode to Rocky will likely get a hoot out of the flick's similar takes on Raiders of the Lost Ark, Night of the Living Dead and even "Hawaii Five-O." More obvious recycling includes a handful of scenes snipped from Part One and spliced throughout its bizarro sequel. Ultimately, the best reason to pick this one up is for yet another amusing commentary by director Jim Wynorski. The beloved breast auteur is joined by Mr. Terlesky and Toni Naples (the ruthless Sultana) who recount their Argentinean adventures while making the flick and also point out goofs like a time-traveling Volvo double-parked in the barbarian age. Nine breasts. 53 corpses. Multiple spit takes. Firesuit stunt. Gratuitous strobe light. Buggs Deathbunny cracks wise, "One rescue per day. That's my policy!"
1987, 89 minutes, Fullframe, Commentary, Trailers, Bios.
