Dance With The Devil

I just finished watching Dance With The Devil (originally Perdita Durango), and I'm at a loss for words. It's a beautifully shot film that manages to be both disturbing, surreal, and compelling without ever going too far to one extreme. Rare is the film that I instantly want to watch again, and although I'm sure many will be turned off by Dance With The Devil, I recommend it to fans of foreign cinema as well as fans of Lynch and Tarantino.
The Plot: A crazed Santeria priest and a wild young woman on their way to kidnap two teenagers who find themselves trapped in a world of sex and violence.
The Video: Though not 16x9 enhanced, the transfer for Dance With The Devil is flawless. The picture is always crisp, clear, and free of grain and dust. Excellent job, A-Pix.
The Audio: The audio wasn't as instantly impressive as the video, but it was still very well-done nonetheless. Dance With The Devil is driven more by imagery and dialogue than action, and the audio is mixed as such.
The Extras: Just trailers. I really wish this disc included a director's commentary. A commentary is the only thing that stood between a Recommended and Highly Recommended rating.
Conclusion: This is not a film for everyone, but I highly recommend it as a rental and recommend it as a purchase. It's not a light-hearted date movie, but it's a film I'm proud to have as part of my collection.
Final Word: The American title for this film came straight from Batman. How great is that?
