The Feature:
Hey, at least you get to see Sharon Stone topless.

Yep, I decided to start my review off my conclusion of the movie. LAPD detective Johnny Modine (Brad Davis) is surly, tough as nails, and blah blah blah. His Christmas celebration spoiled with the news about his father's death. Johnny is determined to find out who killed his father, even if it means his career! WOW! One day, he meets a mysterious woman at a bar named Kathy (Sharon Stone), and finds out her brother was murdered, too.

Watching a movie like this is a cathartic experience. I mock movies that are based on CGI with thin scripts. This movie lacks special effects, and a script that makes any sense. Granted, I still think The Mummy Returns sucked, but at least it wasn't as awful as Cold Steel.

This movie attempts to cram too many 80s clichés… High speed car chases with impossible jumps, beating down an informant while questioning him, an unusual bad guy with equally unusual motives, awful 80s music, meeting an incredibly attractive woman in a bar with NO OTHER patrons, then having sex with her back at your apartment, etc, etc. Skip this movie and read a book, or build a soapbox racer or something.

Video:
The DVD is presented in Widescreen 1.85:1 or Fullscreen 1.33:1. The picture is pretty dull, which isn't a common thing for Columbia Tri-Star DVDs.

Audio:
The audio is presented in Dolby Digital Mono 2.0. After looking at the video presentation, menus, and extras, this was really no surprise to me. Everything sounds okay, but honestly, having 5.1 wouldn't have increased my enjoyment of this movie at all.

Menus:
Easy to navigate, as your options are limited. DVDs like this make you stand up and take notice of the brilliance of the menus in movies like Fight Club… and, um, Fight Club.

Extras:
Three trailers… Not one of them is for Cold Steel. Ironically, the trailers (all recent movies; most notable XXX) have Dolby 5.1 and Anamorphic transfers.
