Movie: Bounty Dog is the story of a small group of mercenaries, known as Bounty Dogs, who are hired to find evidence of a futuristic corporation's illegal weapon development on a Lunar colony. As they investigate, it becomes obvious that something more sinister is going on. The extent that the corporation is not sharing the information on what is potentially a threat to all mankind becomes clear when the lead mercenary, Yoshyuki, is contacted by someone who appears to be his long dead girlfriend. While struggling to avoid capture by corporate military forces, he unravels the mystery of The Sleeper, a force for evil that has awakened when it's counterbalancing force of good is killed. It becomes clear that he is the chosen force to stop the evil force and if he fails, all mankind will perish.

Picture: The picture was presented in full frame. The animation style here was very limited and used very little true movement of the characters. The colors were very dull and the contrast was all but nonexistent in this washed out looking dvd. I detected no artifacts or similar flaws but the dvd transfer was not great on this movie originally released in 1994.

Sound: The choices for this one were a 2.0 and a 5.1 English stereo track. The 5.1 track was marginally better than it's stereo counterpart. There was no original Japanese soundtrack.

Extras: There were some previews but no other extras worth mentioning.

Final Thoughts: After watching this one, I got the impression that it started off as a full length, 100+ minute feature that was edited down to the current 60 minute length. I felt this way since the story seemed to frequently be missing chunks of information that would've explained what was going on. I wish I had access to information that would tell me if the script adaptation by John Wolsky was true to the original material or if the executive producer, Laurence Guinness, changed major elements of the plot in order to save money. The bottomline for me was that I'd suggest this as a rental for those who want to see all domestically released anime since the story itself was so flawed as to make me wonder what happened. I wish that companies would remember that the story should be a prime consideration, no matter if an anime release or any other genre, and with some minor tweaking, this one might've been better. For those who care, there were a few swear words and some minor nudity but nothing graphic.
